Religious education and preparation for sacraments |
Parish Services 1. VISIT A SHUT-IN Volunteers visit parishioners who are unable to move about freely in their homes and nursing homes. Volunteers are another contact from our parish community who can help parishioners confined either temporarily or permanently feel as though they are part of our community and who are indeed, special. Volunteers learn about the strength of the human spirit and gain a sense of contributing in a small way to another’s sense of worth. Visiting a shut-in may also entail praying and, if requested, the distribution of Holy Communion by Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers. 2. BEREAVEMENT & CARE This Ministry calls persons
who have an interest in helping the sick and grieving. Prior to becoming
a part of the Ministry persons are required to take part in a workshop
for formation and awareness of the needs of the bereaved. As representatives
of the parish, they will be asked to offer assistance in ministry endeavors.
e.g. Parish Sacrament of the Sick, visit shut-ins and the funeral home
upon the death of a parishioner. They may also be required to try and
make follow up calls to the family of the deceased. 3. SACRISTY/HOUSEKEEPING GROUPS The object of this group
is to prepare the church and sacred vessels for our mass celebrations.
Washing and cleaning all vessels, preparation of linens, dusting and
cleaning the church and arranging hymnals are just a few of the tasks
performed. Working in God’s House in the quiet and silent presence
of the Holy Eucharist could stimulate a yearning to spend time praying
in the presence of Jesus. This takes a commitment of about two hours
every two weeks and is usually done on a weekday. 4. HANDY MEN AND WOMEN Volunteers with various
talents and gifts are always needed at St. Mary’s. Handy men and
women who can help with small repairs, maintenance, garden upkeep and
the like, are most welcome. 5. ELEVATOR DRIVERS These dedicated men and
women are available before and after weekend Masses, Special Celebrations
and Funerals to accompany individuals who are in need of using the elevator
to access entry into the Church. |
